Regardless in which capacity you use your hands, whether it be punching stuff into a lap-top or being a concert pianist, you'd do well to put Kate Montgomery's program at the top of your health regime. Dear Kate,

I wanted to let you know that I am much better!! Thank you for your devotion to helping those of us who need assistance in doing what we love. I do the 12-step program on a daily basis, as well as the Chinese balls, ball squeeze and rubber band exercises. What other exercises do you suggest I do on a daily basis? The acupressure seems to relieve my pain, too.
God bless you, Kate, you are an answer to my prayers,
 Faith

Dear Kate,
Thank you for thinking of me during this wonderful Christmas season!! I am doing well. Along with your help and the help of my chiropractor I am able to play virtually pain-free. I've had a wonderful December; from playing for weddings and orchestras to Christmas parties and Church performances, God has blessed me indeed.
Hope all is well with you, may God bless you always,  Faith

Hello Kate. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I have been meaning to send you a note.

I have been using the exercise routine from your book in combination with some stretches I learned from a physical therapist and have been pleased with the results. The tingling in my hands and pain in my wrists has mostly gone away. As I continue doing the exercise routine on a daily basis the symptoms are less and less frequent. Thank you so much for your help and advice!

I am 46 and a classical guitarist that has suffered for many years with carpal tunnel/RSI. I tried everything short of surgery but nothing worked. I also type on a computer - over 8 hrs a day. I bought Kate’s book and then I went to see Ms. Montgomery. In one session my pain was gone! I really mean it.  It was the best thing I ever have done for myself. You do not need surgery - you need this book. With Kate’s daily exercises, I am completely pain free. I cannot recommend this book enough. It really does work! Give it a try. You won’t be sorry.

"While performing at the NAMM show 2004 in Anaheim, CA, Kate came up to me and asked to see my hands. She wanted to check my grip strength. I had none!. She then showed me a method to self-correct this problem. It was quite amazing....my elbows popped and then my arms flushed red. It hurt at first but... then it made a difference in my grip strength and my playing. Thanks Kate for taking the time to make my playing easier and more enjoyable."

"Kate's program along with her recommendations of the use of other alternative therapies is nothing short of being absolutely essential to everyone. This pertains to current problems, beginning ones or past "hauntings". Western medicine has its advantages but when it comes to repetitive strain injuries, they don't have a clue of what to do. If they can't drug it, or cut it out, they don't know what else to do. I've been through it all with their form of healing. It doesn't work! Kate's methods will keep you from that venue, rest assured."

Hello Kate
I just wanted to tell your readers about my experience with your method. I was amazed at how quick and simple it was for all the benefit I got. Bravo! The first thing I immediately noticed was there was a "pop" from my right elbow. Nothing painful, in fact just the opposite, it felt great!
What followed was a rush of blood to my arms and a warm relaxed feeling from my shoulders to my fingertips. Then something else happened, my back also went into alignment, I didn't even know it was out!!!! I went home afterward and played for two solid hours with way more control, power and sensitivity. I don't have to work as hard to produce the same output. I have done these exercises a few times since I saw you and have no pain whatsoever.
This is only my experience but I am sharing this for the benefit of those who are considering a more drastic means of correcting their RSI problems. It definitely worked for me! Thanks Dr. Kate.

Hi Kate. I am a flute professor at Western Michigan University and heard about you through a flute student of mine who swears by your exercises.
I'm am very impressed by your book and especially your outlook on life and healing. Thanks for sending the Sports Balm. It is really helping and now that the symphony season is over I can heal my arms and rest up for next year. Thanks for all Kate

Hi Kate
I wanted to write and thank you for putting out a book with information that everyone needs to be know about, especially musicians. I'm a 22-year old drummer and about a year ago, I started having some of the symptoms of CTS. I was diagnosed by a doctor and he had me wear this awful brace on my hand (think it did more harm than good), and then I went to an osteopath and he helped me. He did the trigger point treatments. I didn't know that massage therapy could help, but because of your book, I'm going to be looking for one I can visit regularly. Thank you again for caring about this subject.
One month later Guy had this to say.
I can't say ENOUGH great things about this book. I've been getting into the habit of using steps 1-11 before and after I play. Followed up with Step 12 afterwards. The results are amazing! Finding your book couldn't have come at a better time (well, I wish I had found it earlier). But either way, not only am I "giging" but I had a lengthy practice schedule at my school. I had to rehearse two hours a day, and practice six hours a day. A LOT for me! Your book got me through it with more ease and comfort than I have had in a long time. Thanks again Kate for all your help.

Hello Kate,
I have been using Kate Montgomery's method for relief of repetitive strain injuries in conjunction with other complimentary therapies to maintain the health of my hands. There is a great need to focus on this problem for musicians and artists. Kates knowledge and expertise on this subject gives us all hope that our careers aren't over. Thank you for being a compassionate human being on the other end of the line when I was looking for help.

Hello Kate,
"Kate Rocks!" Kate really cares about people and is enthusiastic and kind in sharing her knowledge. As a full time musician and singer keeping my body in optimal health and performance is very important to me. In working with Kate for only a few short minutes I was able to recognize significant results in mobility and relaxation. I don't always have a lot of time for warm ups but these exercises can be easily integrated into my regular routine. Thanks for the great work! Focused not only to heal but prevent injuries.

Hello Kate,
As a flutist and music therapy major in college, I experienced chronic wrist pain because of countless hours of practicing several instruments, typing papers, and hauling equipment for music therapy sessions. I had been to see a physical therapist during school but was not satisfied with the answer: "Quit practicing.100‰". Tired of the physical and mental strain of chronic pain, I tried Kates book in order to take control of my pain. With daily practice of the exercises illustrated in this book, I was ecstatic with the results. I could not remember the last time my hand was free of pain! Since my livelihood depends on using my hands, knowing I could stay virtually pain free with daily exercises was a huge relief. The trigger point releases and self-massage techniques in this book, help me to release the daily tightness of muscles in my hands and feel great. The range of motion exercises and stretches are quick and easy to do throughout the day. Without this book, I would still be a victim of chronic pain. I have been more than
pleased to find a way to strengthen my wrists and hands to prevent further damage and pain. Thank you Kate
__ Julie Guy, MT-BC (Music Therapist-Board Certified)

Kate, I want to applaud you for the work you have done in this area. The resources available in this area are very limited and I feel your book fills a void. It is very well illustrated and lends itself to a very convenient daily exercise regimen. I have found that western doctors sort of patronize RSI symptoms and recommend surgery without ever considering alternative treatments. Nor do they acknowledge the resulting after effects of surgery, yet alone the pain and disruption in your every day life. Thank you again Kate for writing such a necessary book.

A Simple and Effective Remedy.  I would just like to add my endorsement to the many that you have already received. I have been living with borderline carpal tunnel syndrome for almost 20 years. I have talked to a surgeon, had the test and elected to manage it myself with nighttime splints and Vitamin B. However, recently, heavy gardening (which I love) had driven me to the point of almost continual numbness and tingling in both hands. Since my income depends on the painting that I do and since my husband and I are about to start building a house, I had begun to consider surgery again when I ran into this book accidentally at the library. Thank goodness for that bit of good luck!
I started the massage immediately and miraculously have been free of the numbness and tingling ever since...for about a month now...I am ordering the sports balm and will pass along word on the book and method to any one who needs it. Thanks Kate!

Hi, Kate,
I have been suffering from wrist pain that would not allow me to pick up anything heavy and sent me wrenching with pain when I simply rotated my wrist at a dance class. I suffered for about four months and it seemed to be getting worse not better. Then I researched the web and found a carpal tunnel chat line. Person after person reported surgery didn't work at all and pain that came back after six months to a year.
Three people had used Kate Montgomery's method and all reported success. So I purchased the book. I started working the suggested program and had relief in about a week. I was consistent with the program for several weeks. The pain totally went away. I have been pain free for over 18 months. This book is a blessing! Please try this before surgery. It worked for me!

Both the work and play I choose are demanding of my body especially the arms and hands. Before meeting Kate I knew about massage but hadn't yet learned to pay attention to the entire body to assess its condition and recognize my limits of overstress. Kates comprehensive knowledge of body mechanics, nutrition, healing modalities both traditional and nontraditional along with a genuine compassion for others, help to place me much farther down the path of holistic self-care. As an artist, designer and musician I now live with a greater confidence in fulfilling my dreams and goals thanks to my awareness and continued reference of the Montgomery Method.

Customer Reviews From Amazon.com

This book is a must if you have wrist problems, June 18, 2004
Reviewer: Dom (Australia) - I have been playing drums for 10 years and using a computer intensively for the last 4 years for both study and work. About 12 months ago I decided I hadn't been practicing drums enough and started to play again like I had before I started using computers - BOOM! Within 2 weeks I realized the occasional pain I felt in my right wrist and hand after a long day on the computer wasn't the same as sore legs after going jogging. I've had semi-permanent pain in my right wrist and hand ever since and I've been extremely depressed and freaked out about it.

I stopped playing drums all together and started to use my left hand for essential computer mouse use (ie work only). I thought eventually my left hand would get problems and i'd have lost playing music and my career as a web designer.
Recently I discovered Kate Montgomery's book, and after reading it I feel there's hope I'll be able to heal myself by following her program. One day I'll be able to play drums again like I could before, and I'll still be able to use a computer to earn my living. Kate's book teaches you about how your arms, wrist and hands work, what causes wrist and hand pain and how you can restore them after RSI related damage. The illustrations are excellent, and I feel confident I am doing the exercises correctly. Once I recover (I now believe I can) I will use Kate's preventative program to keep my wrists and hands healthy so I can play drums all my life. If you use your hands to earn your living and/or to do the things in your life that you love then Kate's book is a must.
Kate is the Yoda of healthy hands!

The program reduced my pain significantly, April 7, 2004
Reviewer: GK (VA United States) - The reason I give this book 4 stars, and not 5, is very few things are absolutely perfect to me. I am a long time computer user and had intense pain in fingers, hands, forearms, upper arms, and to shoulders.
I reviewed 7 or 8 books on RSI and Carpal Tunnel. Techiques in this book include actions that are "manageable" to be and require 15-20 minutes. Other books were suggesting a complete life makeover. I used these techniques and my pain was 75% gone and I am able to work limited hours on the computer. I hope to have full recovery soon. I don't have health insurance and I didn't (have to) go to any doctor. So special thanks for this book!

Consider this alternative before electing surgery, April 16, 2003
Reviewer: Brian Darling (Conklin, MI USA) - If you want to avoid painful and expensive surgery, read this book first and apply its principles. These are simple routines and self-therapy and are all about taking care of your body and reversing the damage already done. Besides using this book, you should also avial yourself of the Internet and do some research to educate yourself. I feel that this book is an excellent starting point.

VERY INFORMATIVE, October 18, 2002
Reviewer: Nannette (BLAINE, MN United States) - This book explains everything there is to know about repetitive injuries and how you can help yourself back to pain-free life. The text is clear and easy to read without eye strain, has plenty of illustrations, list of resources and a large index. I highly recommend it!

Enjoying Life Again Thanks to This Book!, October 17, 2002
Reviewer: Ian Anderson (Jacksonville, FL USA) - As a technical writer, I have been suffering from RSI (repetitive strain injury) for almost a year now and have been in and out of doctor's offices, physical therapy, and tried every medication out there until I ended up with an ulcer. Kate's book is the first and only thing that I have found that works! Within 15 minutes of opening her book, I was in less pain, after 2 days, I had significantly decreased my pain, and 3 weeks later, I am finally on my way to making a recovery!

Before I started her program I was in so much pain that I could barely tie my shoes, let alone get on a computer to work. It seemed that everything I did caused me pain and my hands even hurt when I wasn't even using them. Now, I am back on my computer, back doing what I love, and back to enjoying life again. She has really given me my life back.
Thank you, Kate.

FOLLOW UP:
It's been about a year since I wrote this review, and I am STILL enjoying life and have returned to working full-time as a technical writer, thanks to this book and method.

Kate Montgomery Medicine Woman, October 17, 2002
Reviewer: Yinia Najar (San Diego, CA) - I was referred by one of my friends to read Kate's book. Since I lived in San Diego, I tracked Kate down and wanted her to see me and help me. All doctors I had seen had recommended surgery for my carpal tunnel. When I saw Kate the first thing she said was "don't do the surgery, carpal tunnel can be reversed". At first, I was a little skeptical, after all I had gone to many experts and they all had recommended the same "surgery". In my desperate state and trying to find a solution, I decided to put myself in her hands. I followed everything she said in her book. After a few sessions with her and doing the exercises, my hands began recovering the strength and I was beginning to perform normal things like cooking, lifting heavy objects, and using my computer again without so much pain. I did not have to quit my job and regained all hopes to recover without surgery. Two years later, my hands have recovered. Thanks Kate for being that wonderful medicine woman you are!!!!

:
Concise and to the point, July 11, 2002
Reviewer: Agatha (California) - The author brings a simple concept to light in a provocative way. She covers the basics of staying healthy and preventing upper extremity injury through a process of techniques.  There is an interesting section on correct breathing - it's a concept that I hadn't thought of before, but can see how this is helping people. (I work for an insurance company, and help people with workers' compensation injuries.) I've used the techniques found in this book on many people, and have had wonderful success helping people recover from wrist and upper extremity injuries.

Great Resource!!!, June 14, 2002
Reviewer: "mobilemassagewi_com" (Appleton, WI USA) - My 10 year old son even uses the 12 step program to combat "gameboy wrist"!!!  As a massage therapist specializing in "medically sound massage" and caring for hundreds of clients in their workplaces, I have found this book a MUST HAVE resource for both myself and my clients!! I donate copies to every company I visit and have seen dramatic results in my those that follow this simple care plan. I find the book easy to read and understand. I recommend it for treating and prevention of pain, regardless if you are an office worker, LMT, musician, or just a warm body!

"I am a dentist and I have been diagnosed as moderately, severe distal

median neuropathy, carpel tunnel syndrome.
I have seen three specialist surgeons and they have all recommended surgery.
Another specialist who specializes in neuromuscular disorders suggested that
I look at the relationship between vibrations and the dental hand pieces I

I came across an article by Kate Montgomery on prevention of carpel tunnel

This book is full of information, with simple exercises to learn and I
thoroughly recommend this book to people who are at risk to repetitive
strain injury of the arm , wrist and hand. Especially valuable is the slow
breathing and relaxation whilst doing the exercises. This book deserves a
place on every dentist's and dental hygienist’s bookshelf and can be obtained
from www.sportstouch.com  or Amazon.

I feel blessed to have come across Kate and her book and I now have some
extra valuable resources and exercises which have already helped me and  I
believe the exercises will continue to help me once I return to work in less
than three weeks time without having done  surgery !

Update 12/31/07
 HI Kate,

Thank you so...ooo...much for your email. I am fine with my hands and thanks for asking. It was really fortunate for me that I managed to connect with you but that's the way the universe works. Yes it was tough going against the system but it was definitely the right decision. I am still religious with my exercises and I have put people onto your book. I guess when you are ready the teacher appears!!!

Yes, I am loving my tennis and dentistry as well. It is really almost
unbelievable that I can handle so much now. Of course I am careful but the exercises amongst other things stand me in good stead.

Blessings and all the best for 2008.

Angela

PS The last time I saw the hand surgeon he took quite a different attitude with me. I think he actually respects me for what I did although he did caution he did not know about the future but for now he said I no longer need the operation!!

I found her method to be effective and it really helps. Kate's Carpal Tunnel method is safe, cost effective and eliminates the need for surgical intervention in most cases. The exercises are simple and easy to do, with minimal amount of instruction. The corrective techniques are designed to be done anywhere. It is an answer to decreasing the workers compensation problem and getting employees back to work with minimal or no work time lost. I highly recommend this program."

"Dear Ms. Montgomery,

I am typing one-handed to you from Germany where we live half the year. I just had an operation on my thumb as I have trigger fingers on both thumbs. This comes from much too much work re-modeling a cabin in the upper part of Michigan last summer! I have had the tests for ct over here and yes I do have it but not severely. Hah! I thought it was awful...the exercises in your book have helped me so much. I no longer need the wrist guards. Thank you soooo much, they work like a charm. Funnily enough! The doctors here do not want to even hear about you! They would rather operate. Thank you again."

"Two years ago my hands were numb about 50% of each day due to CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME. Being a quilt maker and instructor, I knew I had to take measures to correct this. I was about to contact a surgeon when a friend suggested I call Kate Montgomery of San Diego, Calif. After talking to Kate, I ordered her book with much skepticism. After just one 10 minute session with her book I felt immediate relief. I continue to have relief when I work the simple hand exercises in her book. If I get careless and the symptoms return, I merely have to repeat the simple corrective techniques. I now tell every Quilter I come in contact with to get Kate's book before seeing a surgeon."

"I have been a dental hygienist for 40 years and am still working. In recent years, carpal tunnel syndrome has been a problem. This changed when I met massage therapist, Kate Montgomery. She performed massage on the muscles of my arms, neck, chest and back to relieve the constant contracted position I am forced to be in during my working hours. With her therapy, I experienced relief in the first treatment and after three treatments the improvement is continuing and I am free of the PAIN! I will continue the self-help maintenance program described by Kate in her book and intersperse this with massage. Thanks Kate for all the help."

"Try telling worker's comp. that massage therapy and chiropractic seem to help, but all the drugs and injections and the surgery do not. They have LIED to my face about the success rate of the surgery. I have had CTS for over a year, lost 10 months work and a job over it, and have been told I have a disease that I will have to live with for the rest of my life. Thank you for your help and wisdom."

After having suffered with debilitating pain in both wrists up to my shoulders for over one month, I found Montgomery's book on our local library shelf. Eager to find relief from my pain that would take me off painkillers and away from needless surgery, I read her book and applied her 12 steps. I found some relief immediately and over the next two days, I was tremendously better. I also believe her point that 90% of CTS surgery is unsuccessful. Her methods work and I would recommend them to all CT pain sufferers.

I am a professional violinist and a teacher for the Suzuki school of music. I have had pain in my shoulders, arms and hands for years. It was getting progressively worse and I was in fear of having to stop playing. One day I walked into where Kate was working and at the urging of my husband and friends, I made an appointment. It was amazing! In those two hours, I learned how to align my arm and wrist and work on my self. I also walked out with NO pain. My life felt saved and my career not in jeopardy anymore! The techniques are easy to do and it takes seconds to determine when to use them and then to apply them.
I am a true fan of Kate's and highly recommend her book to all my students for prevention and to anyone suffering with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Prior to locating Kate, I had been in excruciating pain for about a year following a bilateral carpal tunnel release. After one visit I was able to lift a glass of water (before I had to keep my glass on the counter and use a straw). I've used her suggestions and maintain a conditioning program. She has provided me with more relief than any of the physicians could give me and I am truly grateful for her help. I recommend her book to everyone.

One of the most wonderful testimonials I have received came from this lovely 84 year old woman. I received a box of a dozen beautifully decorated Easter cookies. With a note to say thank you. I was truly touched.

Great News! New Hands again!! Seems like a miracle. I can bake all the cookies I want now without pain. I have been told by many to stop. That the work I do for the special holidays, like the Easter cookies I have sent you, caused my problem. Maybe it did. But now I don't have to worry anymore about my hands and can continue to do the baking I love so much.

Your book is priceless and I am hoping it gets to many, many people who need it.
